Coinciding with the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan and speculation about the country's future political system, the World Bank announced in a statement that it was suspending funding to Afghanistan.
The World Bank has announced that it has stopped providing financial assistance to Afghanistan following the Taliban's takeover of the country, Mehr news agency reported quoting Anatoly.
A World Bank spokesman said the Washington-based body was closely monitoring the situation in Afghanistan.
He continued: "We are deeply concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and its effects on the prospects of development and progress of this country, especially for women."
It is claimed that the World Bank will continue to consult with the international community and development partners (in Afghanistan) on the situation and is exploring ways to maintain partnership to preserve the hard-earned development achievements.
The World Bank, through the International Development Association, has allocated about $ 5.3 billion for reconstruction and development projects in Afghanistan since 2002.
Earlier this year, the bank allocated about $ 800 million to Afghanistan.
The World Bank's decision to suspend funding to Afghanistan comes as the International Monetary Fund has previously suspended access to Afghanistan's financial resources, including $ 440 million in monetary reserves.
A spokesman for the fund said in a statement: "There is currently no transparency among the international community regarding the recognition of the government in Afghanistan, as a result of which the country cannot have the right of special withdrawal or access to other IMF resources."
Earlier, as Kabul fell to the Taliban, a well-informed official told Axius that the Taliban would not have access to the US Central Bank's monetary reserves held in the United States.
