Direct Negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia

The Financial Times, quoting three knowledgeable sources, claimed that high-ranking Officials from Iran and Saudi Arabia had held direct talks to improve relations five years after diplomatic ties were severed, according to mehr news agency.

The visit is claimed to have taken place in Baghdad this month. The exact date of the talks was announced April 9 (20 April) and is claimed to have had a positive result. One of the topics in question is also believed to have been Ansarullah's attacks on Saudi positions.

The Saudi delegation presided over the talks by Khalid bin Ali al-Hamidan, director general of the General Intelligence Directorate, and the next round of direct talks between Riyadh and Tehran is scheduled for next week.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi appears to have facilitated the alleged negotiations, and that he held talks with Bin Salman last month during a visit to Riyadh.

It is also claimed that the Tehran-Riyadh talks are moving quickly as the JCPOA negotiations move forward rapidly, as well as the footsteps of Ansarallah's attacks on Saudi positions.

According to the Financial Times, a senior Saudi official has denied any existence of any negotiations, and the Governments of Iran and Iraq have not spoken about it.

On the other hand, a senior Iraqi official and a foreign diplomat confirm the talks.
