World's largest steelmaker drops production

Due to china's decarbonisation restrictions, the country's crude steel production continued to decline over the past quarter, according to Metal News. China's steelmakers produced 83 million and 240,000 tons of raw steel in August 2021, the lowest since March 2020. In August 2020, China recorded 94 million and 850,000 tons of production. August's production saw a 4.1 percent drop compared to July 2021 of 86 million and 790,000 tons. Also in August 2021, the average daily production of Chinese steelmakers was 2.690,000 tons, which saw a drop in production compared to the previous month with 2.8 million tons.

Although China, as the world's largest steelmaker, produced 733 million and 20,000 tons of raw steel from the beginning of January to the end of August 2021, it represents a 5.3 percent increase from the same period last year.

In addition, the world's steelmakers accounted for between 7 and 9 percent of greenhouse gas emissions last year, producing 1.860 million tons of steel. This comes after the steel industry's carbon dioxide production was announced last year of more than three billion cubic meters, making the steel industry the world's most polluting industry, so climate policies around the world that regulate carbon dioxide emissions could encourage steelmakers to use these different methods of steel production.
