What is Steel

Steel is a type of ferrous alloy that weighs about 0.002 to 2 percent of its weight and its properties depend on the weight of carbon. Steel has unique properties, the most important of which is high tensile strength and high resistance, which makes steel used in various industries. Also, steel has different types, one of which is soft steel, which we will continue to thoroughly examine.

Soft Steel

Soft steel is a carbon steel that has a small amount of carbon in addition to iron. This type of steel can be added to the alloy of various elements such as manganese, tungsten and chromium.

Soft Steel Features

1.Since soft steel does not have a suitable stainless coating, so the iron in its compounds is exposed to rust and corrosion

2.The tensile strength of soft steel is much lower than carbon steel

3.Because soft steel does not have alloying elements, it is therefore much more economical than other steels.

4. Due to the fact that the carbon used in soft steel is very low, so soft steel has properties such as machining, high tensile strength and very high weldability.

5.In soft steel, the amount of iron used is much higher than carbon and this has led to more iron phase of soft steel and as a result, soft steel has good magnetic properties.

Soft steel Applications

Due to the mentioned properties and characteristics of soft steel, this steel is used in various industries, the most important of which are:

1.Production of different metal fences

2.Making all kinds of furniture

3.Applicable in the manufacture of pipes and construction facilities

4.Production of all kinds of household appliances

5.Use in automotive and aircraft manufacturing industries

6.Applicable in the manufacture of wires and wires

Production of soft steel in long furnace

Oxygen convertors are used in the production of soft steel by long furnace method. In this method, the raw materials in iron, i.e. pellets and concentrates, are separated by magnetic and drying processes and then transferred to long melting furnaces. Once this separated compound has been melted, they are transferred to another furnace.

Production of soft steel by direct reduction method

In this method, we often use sponge iron or scrap. Soft steel is produced by direct reduction method in induction electric furnaces and electric arc furnaces with oxygen blowing. This method is used in cases where it is easier to access scrap than other materials.
