Graphite electrode

A piece of graphite electrode that transmits high current to electric arc furnaces. The graphite electrode does this in order to melt the metal charge. This electrode is mostly used in factories that operate by electric arc method.

Graphite electrodes are usually available in 100 to 700 mm diameters in three categories: RP, HP and UHP. This type of electro is consumable and after a while of use, it must be replaced.

Graphite electrode production method

According to international standards, graphite electrodes must be made of calcined coke petroleum (CPC). To make a graphite electrode, the needle-shaped stitching powder is first molded and then compressed with a vibrator.

The formed electrode is then baked in an oven. Add a layer of bitumen to this electrode after cooking. In the last stage of graphite electrode production, this electrode is placed at a temperature of 3000 degrees Celsius and turns into graphite.

After the production process is over, we perform the lathe operation on the electrodes. These electrodes can be produced more in the form of cylinders and after production should be cut in standard diameters. In this case, it is necessary to install a pin as a socket on the electrode head.

Graphite electrode as a refractory material

Graphite electrodes can be used as refractories in arc furnaces. The use of this material causes a significant increase in the amount of heat that can be used in casting, and thus produce better quality products.

Graphite electrode in the aircraft industry

Due to the increasing demand for steel in various industries such as the aircraft industry, the use of electrodes such as graphite electrodes has greatly increased. These graphites are capable of producing non-ferrous metals as well as steel of various grades by means of electric arc furnaces. Therefore, the raw material for aircraft is medium grade steel and non-ferrous metals due to their weight.
